my daily supplements

This is something I get asked a lot so I thought I’d write as a placer for me to send anyone who wants to know. Supplements and vitamins are things that I’ve taken since I can remember, as a very bad asthmatic I am not averse to swallowing pills and have a lot of time for homeopathic medicine (it was actually that, and Chinese medicine, which got me out of the hospital-every-two-weeks cycle I was in as a teenager). Please do bear in mind that I’m not a doctor, nor do I have any formal qualifications. Any recommendation listed here is based on my own research, and should always be seconded by a professional opinion…

Let’s start with what I take vitamins for. First and foremost, my health. My health records read like a quest to tick every box on a medical disclaimer form, and for that reason I take extra care of myself - especially whilst Covid still exists. I’m in my mid thirties and well aware that this is a time when signs of ageing kick in, and I’m also (as we go to press) trying for a baby. Whilst I can’t give you any official, medical recommendation for the cocktail I swallow every morning, I can tell you that whenever I have blood tests I am told I have the right amounts of everything (which wasn’t the case a year ago). I’ll list what I take and if any particular brand I’ll note that down too.

1. Beauty Pie, Like Sun Vitamin D

We all need a bit more Vitamin D than we’re getting, right? This supplement is one of the ones my fertility clinic insists on. Beyond the obvious support for bones (there is K3 in here too to help calcium levels) I find this is very much my “happy drug.” Vitamin D is great for general wellbeing and is thought to help fertility for that reason as it can alleviate mental and physical stress. In terms of trusting Beauty Pie - all I can say is the supplements are 75% cheaper for them and I know I’m getting what I need from by the blood tests I have.

2. The Beauty Chef, Collagen Liquid

Collagen is the supplement I get grilled about it, and this one from Australian brand The Beauty Chef is the best I’ve used. First and foremost as I think it’s important to understand; it’s as important to take actual collagen as it is to take vitamins that encourage your body to produce it. In fact, if you just take a load of marine collagen your body might not be able to do much with it unless you also have the right vitamins to help it digest them. So, this one is packed full of Vitamin C, flora-culture (fermented plants, I presume) and Zinc to help you do just that. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t be without it. I pop a tablespoon amount into water everyday, or mix into other drinks.

3. Folic Acid

Ok so the obvious one for fertility. Also known as Vitamin B9, Folic Acid is a longstanding fertility aid as the body converts into into “folate” allowing you to make new DNA (ie: a baby). It’s also very good at warding off anaemia and to make new red blood cells (so really good for people who have had lots of blood tests to transfusions. It can also be used for psoriasis, which a friend has done and it’s been really helpful for her. I don’t have a favourite brand, I’m currently using one from It’s Organic which I’m enjoying - but I also get it from supermarkets or Amazon when running low.

4. It’s Organic, Odourless Garlic

This is the newest addition to my list, it was recommended to me for heart health and promoting low cholesterol. My family don’t have the best tickers, and I myself have quite a prominent heart murmur. So for that reason garlic is a really good one for me.

5. Beauty Pie, Biomega 3

I take these fish fats for a bunch of reasons. Firstly they help with “sharpness” in that they help vision, thinking time and the ability for your neurones to act quickly. For fertility they’re really good for making sure a baby’s eyes and brain grow as best as they can. If you are vegan you can find alternative options (my other half gets his on Amazon as he’s allergic to fish), but I’m really happy with these Beauty Pie ones.

6. The Beauty Chef, Adaptogen Liquid

This one is an entirely selfish choice as it’s brilliant for skin and mental health; I see a real difference when I use this particularly during my period. Again from The Beauty Chef who I really rate, I also swear by their Glow powders here as a boost a couple of weeks before an event, I’ve got a tub lined up for the weeks before my wedding - a really good pre-wed gift for a bride, just a thought… I find myself calmer and more rational when I take this, and I get less of the icky 3am worries too…

7. Pure Clinica, COQ10

The high dose of COQ10 plus some vitamin C and black pepper make for the perfect cocktail to help with a slow metabolism and sluggishness. I started taking it because I got fed up of feeling exhausted after every meal, and I’m someone who just has to look a chocolate bar to have it added to my hips so need help to improve my metabolism. It’s also being used more and more for fertility, I don’t know why but it is…

8. Beauty Pie, Perfect Daily Multivitamin

Last but my no means least, a solid multivitamin. It’s got everything else I need to make sure I am a fully functioning human. I’ve used Beauty Pie’s for as long as they’ve been available and think they’re brilliant value for money.
