top 5 skincare capsules recommendations

This was one of the first posts I planned to write when I started the blog, as I think the concept of capsules deserves it’s own space on here. Before I’d used them myself I really didn’t know what I was missing, nor did I have a clue how to use them. If you’re someone who questioned or not whether to swallow them, welcome to the gang.

For those wondering, no you don’t. Capsules (unless otherwise stated) are single doses of a product, simple. They’re brilliant for a number of reasons but here are my personal favourites:

  • They’re easy to transport - gone are the days where you need an enormous overnight skincare bag, or gym bag - just pop a couple of capsules in a dry container and Bob is indeed your uncle.

  • They contain the exact dose you need - Skincare can seem scary at times, and the reason a lot of people get it wrong is they use too much or too little. Capsules contain the exact amount you need at a time. Brilliant for any “riskier” ingredients like peels or Vitamin As.

  • They are more effective at keep ingredients fresh - Whenever you open a tube or a bottle, in goes the elements. Whilst pumps are good, individually wrapped doses are obviously better. Capsules are perfect for this.

So, which are the good ones? Here are my top 5 favourites, all tried and tested by me. Some will come as no surprise at all as you’ll have seen me rave about them before, but there’s reason for that - they’re really good.

1. elizabeth arden, retinol capsules

Whilst this list is in written in no particular order, the Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules are my favourite on the list. Capsule or no capsule, if someone tells me they’re thinking of trying retinol out, Elizabeth Arden is always my recommendation. They have been using the ingredient for longer than any other major beauty brand an incredible understanding of its efficacy and treatment. Whilst not the cheapest, it is the best - and a capsule is the best way to ensure potency of the ingredient (it’s around 76% more impactful than a retinol cream in a tube).

Arden’s capsules are all brilliant, hence more than one being in this list. The combination of ceramide (what young skin has to keep it bouncy and firm, that we lose over time) and retinol (a vitamin A) is perfect for anyone looking to improve signs of ageing, reduce pigmentation and improve overall skin health. The dose is exactly right for a day’s use (apply at nighttime) and they don’t use the expression “line eraser” lightly - it really does wipe them out over the course of 30 days use.

2. Estee Lauder, Advanced Night Repair Capsules

Advanced Night Repair, or “ANR” as its often shortened too is somewhat of a cult product. I am firmly on the bandwagon, I absolutely love it. I’m sure a laboratory will claim it, but suspect it is made my the Gods themselves. This is a brilliant product as an “all rounder” - the ingredients will support the majority of skin needs and keep skin fresh, healthy and glowful.

The capsules are a great idea for anyone who travels a lot, or perhaps doesn’t get ready in their own home everyday as it’s got everything you need in one place. It’s the exact right size for daily use, and if you don’t see a marked improvement in your skin after 14/21 days I’d ve very surprised.

3. beauty pie, vitamin c capsules

I started using these on Sali Hughes’ recommendation in a Guardian article. As she said, although they are only £13 (to members) they have 10% Vitamin C - quite a high dose. Combined with Vitamin E to ensure the ingredients really penetrate and are absorbed by the skin, these capsules are amazing for anyone looking to “snap back” after some sun induced pigmentation and will give you an all round glow.

4. elemis, cellular recovery capsules

Any product that is confident enough to offer such a short quantity (ie; they think you’ll see a difference in that time) is worth checking out for me - but my experience was even better. I first tried them from an advent calendar and even though there were only three of each colour (bear with me) I saw such a result that I went and bought the full pack. They come in 14 and 60 packs, so a 7 or 30 day quantity. They’re perfect for travellers, heavy commuters - anyone who puts their skin through lots of different environments, temperatures and extremes. I cannot recommend these more, and they’re packaged beautifully so would make a lovely gift.

5. sarah chapman, 10 day program

Longer term followers will know that I really don’t like to buy into the bridal-pre-wedding-obsessiveness. But this stuff is perfect for the 10 days before your big day and is the same cost as a decent facial. A big daily dose of vitamin A and hyaluronic acid, it’ll contour, reduce lines and plump your skin to your hearts content. Of course, it doesn’t need to be for a wedding - if you’re looking for a complete reset and reboost program this is the one.
